Home, Home in the Church
I grew up with parents who met with the local churches. I was around the believers and in the meetings. Our home was always where believers were visiting and where there was fellowship, prayer, the Bible and singing. Frequently my parents had others over for meals and fellowship and at other times we were invited to other homes for meals. I remember that prayers, praises, singing and Bible reading were just normal parts of everyday life. There were many Christian sisters’ meetings in our home during the day and on many evenings we would go to meetings. In addition our family was often involved in taking care of the needs of others. I remember many times helping families move or helping take care of their children. We also had many family outings with other families who met with the local church. I knew that my parents loved the church and all the believers and I knew that they loved the ministry of Watchman Nee and Witness Lee.
My parents’ life and pattern and the life I knew growing up have instilled in me a genuine appreciation for the Lord and for the local churches with all the believers. This protected me through the tough times. I now love to pray, read the Bible and sing to the Lord; and this has become a daily practice. I am now married to a husband who loves the Lord and the church and we have two daughters who love the local church and live for the children’s meetings, young people’s meetings and church conferences. My seven year old daughter’s motto could be “The heavens can be annulled, the earth can pass away but the home meetings must not be forsaken.”
The local churches have been the greatest blessing to me and my whole family. The atmosphere in our home is one of love for the Lord, for all the believers and for the ministry of Watchman Nee and Witness Lee. As we strive to live the Lord before our children, my husband and I are thankful for the heritage we have and for the preserving element in the church for our children. A hymn from our hymnal says it best:
O home in the church, where we’ve ended our search
With the brothers rejoicing all day;
Where Christ is our life, and we are through with all strife,
Now we’re home, hallelujah, to stay! (Hymn, # 1233)
